Women Build
The Women Build Project
Through Shelter, Women Empower
Women Build is a powerful initiative that challenges women and people from all walks of life to actively participate in building affordable homes in their communities. This program not only addresses housing insecurity but also creates opportunities to learn valuable construction skills in a supportive environment. By participating in Women Build, you become part of the solution, taking direct action to create safe, affordable housing for families in need.
Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity hosts four Women Build projects annually, providing regular opportunities for community involvement. These events create a welcoming environment where participants can develop new skills while making a tangible difference in their community.
Volunteer Testimonial
“As someone who had never picked up a hammer before, I was nervous about joining Women Build. Four months later, I’ve not only learned valuable construction skills but witnessed a family receive keys to their new home—a moment I’ll never forget. “
The Women Build program’s structured approach enabled our volunteers to progressively build confidence with various tools and techniques, creating a sense of accomplishment that extends far beyond the construction site.
How You Can Make A Difference

Women Build welcomes participants of all skill levels – no construction experience is necessary! The program is designed to be inclusive and educational, providing on-site training and guidance from experienced volunteers and staff. Whether you’ve never held a hammer or have years of building experience, there’s a meaningful role for you.

Volunteer Testimonial
“Women Build has become the highlight of my year. There’s something profoundly satisfying about seeing a home take shape through our collective efforts. What keeps me coming back is witnessing how affordable housing transforms lives, particularly for women and children in our community who deserve stability and security.”
The satisfaction in the Women Build project comes from witnessing the physical manifestation of community effort—watching foundations become homes, walls become sanctuaries, and construction sites become neighborhoods. This tangible transformation mirrors the deeper social impact of creating pathways to stability.
Join the Women Build Team
We host four Women Build projects each year. These events provide the opportunity for women to take a proactive role in promoting affordable homeownership in El Paso County. Any woman or person interested in learning how to build or repair a home is invited to join! No construction skills or experience are necessary.
You can participate in our Women Build projects by volunteering on the construction site, fundraising for a house sponsorship, recruiting volunteers to build, or promoting community awareness for Women Build.
