Maverik Build

The Maverik Build represents a significant $100,000 partnership supporting Pikes Peak Habitat's mission to create affordable homeownership opportunities in El Paso County. Following Maverik's acquisition of Kum & Go, this project continues a decade-long tradition of corporate commitment to Habitat for Humanity through both national fundraising and local affiliate support.

The Maverik Build

Establishing a New Partnership

The Maverik Build represents our valued partnership with Maverik – Adventure’s First Stop (who acquired Kum & Go in 2023). As part of their commitment to community development, Maverik has generously provided a $100,000 grant to Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity. This significant contribution directly supports the construction of an affordable home in The Ridge at Sand Creek neighborhood in Colorado Springs, continuing a decade-long tradition of Habitat support previously established by Kum & Go.

Volunteer Testimonial

“Working alongside Ida and Alex on their Maverik build has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Knowing what this family endured during Hurricane Maria—losing everything and living in a single room with extended family—makes each nail we drive and wall we raise profoundly meaningful. As a volunteer, I’ve witnessed firsthand how our community can transform lives by providing the foundation for new beginnings. This is what makes Pikes Peak Habitat’s mission so powerful.”

Ida, Alex, and Lucia’s Journey

“We can’t wait to get started building our new home.”

Ida, Alex, and their daughter Lucia exemplify resilience and determination. In 2017, they survived the devastating impact of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico—an experience that fundamentally changed their lives. Their journey from hurricane survivors to homeowners represents the transformative power of stable, affordable housing.

In conjunction with the Maverik partnership, this Habitat home represents not just physical shelter, but safety, stability, and the fulfillment of long-held dreams after surviving Hurricane Maria’s devastation.
