Individual
Volunteering On Your Own
Contributing to Your Community
At Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity, we believe that everyone has something valuable to contribute to our mission of creating affordable homeownership opportunities in El Paso County. Whether you’re a skilled tradesperson, a curious novice, or someone simply passionate about community development, your individual commitment makes a meaningful difference in addressing our region’s housing challenges.
We’ve designed our volunteer program to be accessible and rewarding for people at every skill level and life stage. From retirees seeking purposeful engagement to professionals developing new skills, students exploring career interests, to newcomers connecting with their community, our diverse volunteer family represents the collaborative spirit that drives our mission forward.
Benefits of Individual Volunteering
Volunteering with Pikes Peak Habitat offers more than the satisfaction of giving back—it provides tangible skills development in construction, retail operations, or customer service that can enhance your personal and professional life.
The Habitat volunteer experience also offers meaningful social connections outside your usual circles. Our diverse volunteer community brings together people from different backgrounds, professions, and perspectives, united by a shared commitment to affordable housing. These connections often develop into lasting friendships and professional networks that extend beyond the build site.
Volunteer Testimonial
“As someone new to Colorado Springs, volunteering at the ReStore helped me connect with my community while developing retail skills I never knew I’d enjoy. The staff treats volunteers with such appreciation that it feels like being part of a team rather than just an occasional helper.”
For individuals new to our community, the ReStore environment provides an immediate social connection point—a welcoming space where meaningful relationships form naturally through shared purpose. Many volunteers discover that these initial connections develop into friendships, professional networks, and deeper community integration that enriches their Colorado Springs experience. The ReStore also serves as an exceptional skills development environment where individuals can explore retail operations in a supportive setting.
Volunteer Programs
ReStore
The Pikes Peak Habitat ReStores serve as both vital funding sources for our housing programs and affordable home improvement resources for our community. As a ReStore volunteer, you’ll help process donations, assist customers, create merchandise displays, and support daily operations in a retail environment.
Construction
Our construction volunteers experience the tangible impact of their efforts as homes take shape before their eyes. Working alongside skilled supervisors, you’ll learn valuable construction techniques while contributing to a family’s future home. All tools and safety equipment are provided, along with clear instructions for every task.
Typical construction activities include framing, siding installation, painting, flooring, and landscaping, with tasks varying based on the current phase of construction. We carefully match volunteers with appropriate tasks based on physical ability, experience level, and personal interest. Construction volunteering is available Wednesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with half-day options available for those with limited time.
Volunteer Testimonial
“Volunteering with Habitat absolutely complements my college studies in community development. The organization’s approach to addressing housing affordability through partnership aligns with everything I’m learning about sustainable community solutions.”
For students in fields like urban planning, social work, public policy, or community development, Habitat offers a living laboratory where classroom concepts materialize into tangible community solutions. This hands-on experience transforms abstract theories about housing equity and sustainable development into practical knowledge that enriches academic understanding.

Getting Involved for Good
When you volunteer with Pikes Peak Habitat, your impact extends far beyond the immediate project. Habitat homeowners gain financial security through affordable mortgages, building generational wealth and strengthening our community’s economic foundation.
Your volunteer hours help transform underutilized properties into vibrant homes, raising property values and inspiring additional community investment. Each nail hammered and each donation processed contributes to economic stability for local families.
