Home Repair Program FAQs

Q: How do I know if I qualify for this program?

A: To qualify, the home must be your primary residence and located within El Paso County. You must be the recorded owner of the property. All mortgage and homeowners insurance payments must be current. Your total household income must be at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

Q: How long does it take to process my application?

A: We will carefully review your application, which can take up to two weeks. Once your eligibility is confirmed, our Repair Program Manager will be in touch to schedule a Scope of Work visit at your home.

Q: What can I expect during the Scope of Work visit?

A: Representatives from Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity will conduct a home visit to verify the details of your application and to photograph the areas requiring repair.

Q: How do I know if my application has been approved?

A: Following the Scope of Work visit, our team will develop a detailed project budget for the identified repairs. This budget will then be submitted to our review committee for final approval. Once the project is approved, we will contact you to sign the Partnership Agreement and schedule the work.

Q: Does my mobile home qualify for this program?

A: Mobile homes are not eligible for the Home Repair program. However, manufactured homes may qualify if they are set on a permanent foundation.

Q: What kind of repairs qualify for this program?

A: Because each project is unique, the approach to repairs is determined on a case-by-case basis. For specialized tasks requiring a licensed professional, such as plumbing or electrical work, Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity will obtain a quote from a qualified contractor. Upon project approval, that contractor will be hired to complete the work. All other general repairs are performed by our skilled team of staff and dedicated volunteers.

Q: If approved, how long will it take to complete the repairs?

A: To ensure fairness, projects are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the high volume of requests, the waiting period for work to begin can be up to 12 months after your agreement is signed. Once your project is underway, the hands-on work is typically completed within two weeks. Please note that this duration can be influenced by factors like inclement weather, material availability, and volunteer schedules.
