Stories of Hope This Holiday Season

This fall, Bill, a local Army veteran, received a new roof and gutters on his home. This project brought together community partners including Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity, Owens Corning, Old World Roofing, and Westside Seamless LLC, who donated the parts and labor through Owens Corning’s Roof Deployment Project for veterans — a project that supports individuals who have served our country.

Shortly after Bill moved into his current home, he discovered that among other issues, the roof had been leaking, causing mold issues and structural problems. Bill, who’d had a career pouring concrete, patched things up with duct tape and ingenuity as best he could, but he eventually realized he would need significant help to continue living in the home. Since Pikes Peak Habitat started to work on Bill's house in collaboration with these community partners, Bill now has a new roof and gutters on his home that will serve him for years to come.

Bill shared this experience has “reinforced my belief in a higher being and just knowing that no matter how much I feel alone, I’m not alone. And he won’t abandon me….[What has happened] is not humanly possible.”

Vote for a Gingerbread House and Help Build a Home for a Local Army Veteran Family

Date: Voting Runs Through Friday, Dec. 15

The annual Gingerbread Home Build event brings our El Paso County community together to decorate gingerbread homes in a friendly virtual competition to raise funds for our next Veterans Build future homeowners, Damian and Trinady's family.

We have multiple builders competing this year, and competitors need your help to win. The three gingerbread homes that raise the most money for our 5th Veterans Build through their "votes" (donations) will win 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes (bragging rights).

You can vote for a participant by making a donation to their team's fundraising page or by visiting the "Vote for Your Favorite Gingerbread Home" page and selecting which team you would like to support. Use the link to check out photos of the gingerbread houses created by our competing teams this year, and vote for your favorite. All donations directly support the construction of our next Veterans Build home for Damian and Trinady's family.
