On Saturday, August 12th, Pikes Peak Habitat staff, volunteers, and the family and friends of Jamie O’Brien gathered to share in a wonderful event: a ground blessing service for the new home that is being built for Jamie and her two children.
After a few introductions by Pikes Peak Habitat staff, Jamie got the opportunity to share about becoming a future Pikes Peak Habitat homeowner. “It has been a long road,” Jamie said. She shared how her upbringing and early years were marked with instability and homelessness. She always dreamed of having a safe, secure home for herself and her own kids – yet thought it out of reach. A place to grow in a community that would provide the strength, stability and self-reliance, and a home in which to mark life’s milestones, like birthday parties and school graduations and proms.
Jamie has put in the hard work, time and effort and soon she will have such a place.
Overcome with emotion and gratitude, she concluded “I couldn’t have reached my dream of homeownership without Pikes Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity, all the volunteers and my supportive friends and family, so thanks for helping to make this home a reality for me.”
Way to go, Jamie! We are excited for you!
