Every Day Is Earth Day
We build energy-efficient homes with drought-resistant landscaping, recycle materials wherever possible, and reuse household goods and construction materials through our ReStores.
Conservation on Our Construction Site
Pikes Peak Habitat builds sustainably! We are constantly finding ways to make our homes more energy-efficient -- and more affordable for our homeowners by installing systems that lower their utility bills as well as conserving resources. From mini-split heating and cooling systems to insulation, we build tight, energy-efficient homes -- and carefully steward the land we use.

Waterwise Landscaping
We've worked with Colorado Springs Utilities to provide a selection of low-water trees and shrubs for our homeowners to choose, keeping their water bills low. Our landscapes also feature attractive rock and gravel areas.

Reuse, Repurpose, and Recycle with the ReStores
In fiscal year 2023 (July 1, 2022-June 30, 2023), the ReStores diverted 2,579 tons of usable and repurposable items from landfills!
Donations
Our ReStores give new life to new and gently used donations of furniture, household items, tools, construction supplies, and more!
Recycling
The ReStores serve as drop-off centers for materials such as metal, paint, porcelain, and textiles that are then recycled into road base, insulation, and more!

Earth Day
Annual Earth Day Donation Drive
In 2024, our Earth Day donation drive brought 618 donations to our ReStores between April 15 - 22! That's 50 more donations than in 2023.
We're extremely grateful to Keysight Technologies, Earth Day 2024 Donation Drive Title Sponsor! Their generous sponsorship directly supports our programs' housing solutions and environmental conservation practices.
Read with Us: Saving Us
To celebrate Earth Day, our featured book in April 2024 was Saving Us: A Climate Scientist's Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World by Katharine Hayhoe. Hayhoe, chief scientist for The Nature Conservancy, explains why her Christian faith motivates her to care about climate change and its impacts on vulnerable populations throughout the world. As a Christian organization serving and partnering with people of all faiths and no faith, Pikes Peak Habitat shares that perspective!
Tithe Program
In addition to prioritizing environmental stewardship in El Paso County, Colorado, Pikes Peak Habitat donates 10% of all undesignated funds through our tithe program to Habitat affiliates in developing countries and to Habitat’s International Disasters Fund and Orphans and Vulnerable Groups Fund. Our partner countries are Bangladesh, Dominican Republic, and Uganda. Through our tithe, we help serve people most in need throughout the world, including those who have been displaced because of climate-related disasters.
Bangladesh
Habitat Bangladesh offers Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Programs (WASH) and helps build resilient urban slum settlements through living condition upgrades and skill development programs.
Dominican Republic
Habitat for Humanity Dominican Republic is building homes that are made 60-70% out of durable plastic panels that are resistant against tropical storms and hurricanes.
Uganda
Habitat Uganda focuses on housing for vulnerable groups, WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) programs, inheritance rights, and malaria prevention.
