Pikes Peak Habitat Honors Rosalynn Carter's Life of Service

Mrs. Carter at podium in Denver

Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity joins other Habitat affiliates in honoring Rosalynn Carter's life and legacy. We will hold a memorial service for the U.S. First Lady at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, at our construction trailer at The Ridge at Sand Creek, 5303 Beauport Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80915. The public is welcome to attend.

In addition, we'll have doors available at the construction site and both ReStore locations (Northeast, 6250 Tutt Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80923; and South, 411 S. Wahsatch Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903) for well-wishers to sign with memories, thoughts, and prayers. These symbolize the countless doors Mrs. Carter opened for others through her work with Habitat, as well as her advocacy for mental health.

President and Mrs. Carter led Habitat's first Carter Work Project to New York City in 1984. The weeklong event has continued annually throughout the world, with trips to work sites in the United States and 14 other countries. The Carters’ nearly four-decade involvement with the organization helped raise Habitat’s profile, impacting countless lives and furthering our mission of ensuring that everyone, everywhere has a decent, affordable place to live.

Gingerbread Village Decorating Event Launches Fundraising Campaign

Parents holding twin daughters and posing with gingerbread house

Pikes Peak Habitat kicked off our annual Gingerbread Home Build competition with our first-ever Gingerbread Village decorating event Dec. 1! Youth groups from local churches joined Army veteran Damian, his wife Trinady, and their twin daughters -- our 5th Veterans Build family -- at the ReStore Northeast for a festive night of food and creativity.

The homes designed at the event -- by participants from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Grace and St. Stephens Episcopal Church, and Thrivent -- join other entries from individuals and groups throughout El Paso County. You can vote for your favorite through midnight Dec. 15 by making a donation online! Proceeds support construction of Damian and Trinady's new home.

Pikes Peak Habitat Requests Your Support During the 12 Days of Christmas

Stocking with same info as accompanying article

The 12 days of Christmas is the period in Christian theology that marks the span between the birth of Jesus Christ and the coming of the Magi, the three wise men who gave Jesus gifts. It begins on December 25 (Christmas) and runs through January 6 (the Epiphany, sometimes also called Three Kings’ Day).

During these 12 days of Christmas, will you give the gift of decent, affordable homes for workforce families by donating so we can purchase items needed for our day-to-day operations? Over the next year, we'll be building six new homes in partnership with local families and repairing homes for existing El Paso County homeowners. Support from our donors, volunteers, and ReStore customers keeps our building and repair efforts affordable for the families who partner with us.

Every Pikes Peak Habitat home starts at our business office, is supported by the net proceeds from the ReStore, and is built at our construction sites. By supporting operations at these locations, you help build the opportunity for permanent, affordable homeownership for local workforce families!

Global Village Trip Slated for 2024

Pikes Peak Habitat is accepting applications from supporters interested in joining our Global Village Subcommittee (PDF). Global Village is a Habitat for Humanity International initiative that brings people to another country to help build affordable homes, work alongside people from other cultures, and learn about housing needs from a specific community's perspective.

Chloe Henry, Pikes Peak Habitat's Faith in Action program manager, participated in a Global Village trip to Paraguay in September. The experience helped equip Henry to lead a Global Village trip to one of Pikes Peak Habitat's tithe partner countries in 2024. Stay tuned for details!
