March 8, 2023, is International Women's Day!

Did you know that single women pay approximately 1% to 2% more than single men when they purchase their homes, but they receive 2% to 3% less when they sell? Affordable and equitable homeownership can help women create generational wealth in their families.

Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity offers multiple initiatives to support women both here in El Paso County and globally!

Homeownership Program

Pikes Peak Habitat's homeownership program helps families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. Our new and future homeowners include single women, single moms, and women living with their extended families. Read some of their stories!

Women and Housing Informational Session

Watch our Women and Housing Informational Session, held during Habitat's International Women Build Week 2021, with our Executive Director/CEO, Kris Lewis. During this session, we discussed how women are disproportionately affected by the affordable housing crisis and how women can support building and repairing affordable housing with Pikes Peak Habitat.

Women Build

Pikes Peak Habitat is hosting four Women Build events this year. These are opportunities for individuals as well as groups to come together, connect with other women on the construction site, hone their skills, and build muscle while also building homes!

Home Repair Program

Pikes Peak Habitat's home repair program assists with

  • critical home repair for seniors, veterans and other homeowners who are cost-burdened
  • aging in place
  • weatherization and preservation

Many of the homeowners we work with are women who, in some cases, would be unable to remain in their homes and live independently without the critical home repairs we provide. Read Patty's story.

Microfinance Loans for Women in Uganda

Pikes Peak Habitat tithes (shares 10% of our undesignated donations) with global partners, including Habitat Uganda. This affiliate has a robust microfinance program for women, allowing low-income workers to undertake incremental microloans directly to improve their shelter.
