Apostles Build Home Dedication Honors Mariela, Ricardo, and Their Family

Apostles Build home dedication invitation with same information as text

Please join us at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, as we dedicate the Apostles Build home for Mariela, Ricardo, and their four sons. Their family has been sharing a three-bedroom, one-bathroom house with other relatives, and the lack of space has impacted their children in many ways. They don't have room to keep educational materials such as flash cards and books, and one son even had to give up baseball because the family had no place to store his equipment!

Having their own two-story, four-bedroom home will mean more space for togetherness. Ricardo looks forward to being able to gather at their dining room table to share meals, and Mariela says, “As a family, we will be able to do more things and have more family time, like having movie nights, game night, and so much more!”

For the Apostles Build, local churches from around El Paso County came together to raise walls, funds, and prayers. We're thankful to all the congregations and individuals who participated! We hope you will join us at The Ridge at Sand Creek, 5303 Beauport Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80915, for this special celebration.

Help us celebrate with Ricardo and Mariela's family!

Four Families Mark Milestones with Groundbreaking and Home Dedication

Kum & Go reps with family

Both the beginning and the completion of home construction provide opportunities for us to rejoice with families who are realizing their dream of owning their own decent, affordable homes! On Saturday, Nov. 7, we had the chance to celebrate these milestones with four families at The Ridge at Sand Creek.

First, we held a groundbreaking for three families of future homeowners.

Ida and Alex, along with Ida's aunt, Lucia, lost their home when Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico in 2017. Their new home will be the Kum & Go Sponsored Build, and we were honored to have representatives from the convenience store chain join in shoveling dirt at the groundbreaking!

We also celebrated with Janice, who works for a local school district. She and her teenage daughter, who has been volunteering alongside her mom at the construction site and will live in their new home, are both artists.

Gilas also participated in the groundbreaking. Originally a school principal in Kurdistan, she had to begin her education and career all over when her family came to the United States. She and her 12-year-old son will live in a recycled home in our Woodmen Vistas subdivision.

Immediately after the groundbreaking, we dedicated the 3rd George Hammond Build - Honoring Tim Trowbridge for Kayla and her family. Kayla is a single mom of two teenagers. Her son looks forward to having a basketball hoop in the driveway, and her daughter is excited to get the puppy she's wanted for years. Kayla's busy planning her garden -- a passion she shares with several other Pikes Peak Habitat homeowners who are her new neighbors!

Global Village Subcommittee Open to Applications

Pikes Peak Habitat is accepting applications from supporters interested in joining our Global Village Subcommittee (PDF). Global Village is a Habitat for Humanity International initiative that brings people to another country to help build affordable homes, work alongside people from other cultures, and learn about housing needs from a specific community's perspective.

Chloe Henry, Pikes Peak Habitat's Faith in Action program manager, recently participated in a Global Village trip to Paraguay. She and other participants helped build a home for a local family and attended the dedication, where the whole community celebrated with the new homeowners!

The experience helped equip Henry to lead a Global Village trip to one of Pikes Peak Habitat's tithe partner countries in 2024.
