FY '23 Year in Review Highlights Gains in Affordable, Attainable Homeownership
Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity has just released our FY '23 Year in Review publication (PDF), which features people involved with our mission -- homeowners, board and subcommittee members, volunteers, and staff members -- and fiscal year numbers, such as
- five homes built
- 27 home repair projects completed
- $123,000 tithed to Habitat for Humanity International affiliates and funds
- 2,579 tons of items saved from landfills through our ReStores
During this fiscal year, Pikes Peak Habitat also initiated and co-hosted the Colorado Springs Mayoral Candidate Forum on Affordable Homeownership.
We wouldn't be able to do any of this without you! Thanks for your support, and here's to even more lives impacted in FY '24!
Global Village Subcommittee Open to Applications
Pikes Peak Habitat is accepting applications from supporters interested in joining our Global Village Subcommittee (PDF). Global Village is a Habitat for Humanity International initiative that brings people to another country to help build affordable homes, work alongside people from other cultures, and learn about housing needs from a specific community's perspective.
Chloe Henry, Pikes Peak Habitat's Faith in Action program manager, recently participated in a Global Village trip to Paraguay. She and other participants helped build a home for a local family and attended the dedication, where the whole community celebrated with the new homeowners!
The experience helped equip Henry to lead a Global Village trip to one of Pikes Peak Habitat's tithe partner countries in 2024.
Help Us Bring Critical Home Repairs to El Paso County Families
Rose, a certified nursing assistant (CNA), received critical repairs through Pikes Peak Habitat’s home repair program. Because of the work done by our crew, Rose and her teenage daughter, Adrianna, can remain securely in the home where Rose grew up.
"Sometimes, especially for my mom, it was hard for her to ask for help, but it's a great program, and it's really helped us a lot with things we could have never done ourselves," says Rose. "I'm really thankful to have been a part of this entire journey."
Contributions to our home repair program help support health, safety, and accessibility for local homeowners like Rose.
World Habitat Day Highlights Need for Affordable, Attainable Homes
Monday, Oct. 2, is World Habitat Day, designated by the United Nations to promote the idea that everyone needs a decent place to live.
During World Habitat Day -- and every day -- Habitat for Humanity draws attention to the important role decent housing plays in eliminating barriers to a better, healthier, more financially stable life. More than 400 local Habitat organizations, including Pikes Peak Habitat, are working toward policy solutions at the local, state, and federal levels that promote the supply and preservation of affordable homes, equitable access to credit, land use for affordable homes, and communities of opportunity.
Save the Date! Mike Maroone Honda Supports 5th Veterans Build
Mike Maroone Honda is once again hosting a car show to benefit Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity, with proceeds supporting Trinady and Damian, our 5th Veterans Build future homeowners! This year’s event will take place Sunday, Oct. 8, at Mike Maroone Honda, 1103 Academy Park Loop, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.
Damian is an Army veteran who met his wife, Trinady, while he was stationed at Ft. Carson and she was a college student in her hometown of Alamosa. A few months after they married, they learned she was pregnant with twins. Their daughters, Analise and Ember, are now two years old, and one has a rare blood disorder. Both girls struggle with health issues from the mold growing in their apartment, and the family also has experienced attempted break-ins and issues with the landlords.
“We as a family are thankful,” says Trinady to the many people who support the Veterans Build. “Not a lot of veterans get this kind of opportunity. Changing from being a soldier to being a civilian and working a regular job can be tough, and lots of veterans struggle to find their feet once out of the military. So helping veterans and their families is so amazing, and we are so thankful as well to all those who are willing to help.”
